NARRATIVE ILLUSTRATION

For this brief, we were each given a short story by M R James, and were asked to produce a full bleed illustration in full colour and a black and white chapter header. My story was 'Wailing Well' which was a dark story involving a boy scout named Stanley Judkins, and his mischievous behaviour. We had to work literally rather than conceptually for this project, so it was vital to really understand the story. I was really happy with the chapter header I think it really captured the mood and provided a good entrance to the story. For the full bleed illustration I aimed to portray a dark, enticing mood, enough to provide a scary atmosphere, but also to not give too much away to the reader, which I think works well. Needless to say, the story didn't have a happy ending.
